Defaults

The General Defaults setting lets you select the base currency and locale for Order Management. It's important to set these properly.

Order Management can be configured to appear in a base locale, which is based on a combination of language and country. If a base Locale isn't specified, the default is English. If a language other than English, French, or German is selected, then English is the language but the numbers, dates, and currency are in the format of the selected locale. A base currency can also be specified on this page. See Configuring a Base Locale.

To set the default values regarding currency and locale, follow these steps:

Click Settings from the accordion menu, and then click Preferences.
Click the General tab.
Click Defaults. The General Defaults page opens.
From the drop-down lists, select the following:
- Address Type
- Base Currency
- Base Locale

Click Update.

The following table describes the parameter fields and buttons on the General Defaults page.

Fields and Buttons	Description
Address Type drop-down	A drop-down list of pre-defined address types including Commercial or Residential. This affects default shipping quotes in Customer Service Center when you are not using fixed shipping rates. Certain carriers and methods charge different rates depending on the address type.
Base Currency drop-down	A drop-down list of pre-defined currencies that permits you to select a base Currency for transactions. This field applies to shipping providers and isn't relevant for localization. Note: The base currency reflects the lead currency of the system. The base currency is used to calculate total Currencies (of multiple orders) in Queues summary totals. The base Currency is also used when showing item pricing. For example, United States
Base Locale drop-down	A drop-down list of pre-defined Locales that permit you to select a base Locale for transactions. The base Locale will affect the default appearance of the Order Management user interface. For example, English – United States Note the following about the base locale: If a base locale and user locale are not specified, the default is English. If a user locale specifies a locale different from the base locale, the user locale overrides the base Locale. See User Profiles. If a language other than English, French, or German is selected, then English is the language but numbers, dates, and currency are in the format of the selected locale.
Weight Unit drop-down	A drop-down list of weight units to be used as the default for shipping calculations. You can select lbs or kgs. While the unit type doesn't appear in the UI, all weight value fields are considered to be in the selected units. Note that you configure the weight units used in data sent to certain shipping processors in the shipping processor settings.
Update button	Updates the system with the selected general defaults.
