Global address support

Order Management provides global address support for customer billing, payment, and shipping addresses for multiple countries. When adding an address for a new customer, adding or changing a billing, payment, or shipping address on a order or invoice, or sending a catalog to a customer, you can select a country so the address format for that country appears. This table shows the available formats:

These are some considerations:

Note: For the U.S., when the U.S. postal code/zip code is entered or the autofill icon () is selected, the city and state for a U.S. address is automatically populated. For other countries, the city, state/province/region, and postal code must be entered into the fields, if permitted by country settings.

Scenario 1: Localized Shipping Address

Scenario: Customer Service Center
A U.S. customer places an order on the merchant's web site to ship to themselves. They calls the Customer Service Center because they wants to ship the order to a friend in Germany instead. The Customer Service Representative (CSR) who receives the call is in France and is using Customer Service Center in French. The CSR must change the shipping address on the Order Detail page in Customer Service Center using an address format for the German locale.
Action
The CSR performs these steps to process the order in their French locale, but selects German from the Local list so the shipping address format is appropriate for the German locale:
  1. Log into Customer Service Center using the user profile, which is localized to French.
  2. Click Find Orders, then search for and locate the order.
  3. On the order details page, edit the shipping address in the Items Shipping section.
  4. Select Germany from the Country list, which then changes the address fields into the German address format.
  5. Add the German shipping address in the appropriate address fields.
Note: The Billing address remains in the U.S. address format because the order was processed by a U.S. customer in English.
Scenario: Retail Center
A U.S. customer places an order on the merchant's web site. They then decides to ship the order to a friend's address in France. Because they are near the merchant's U.S. retail store, they ask the retail associate to change the shipping address before the shipping order is processed. The retail associate must change the shipping address in Retail Center using the address format for the German locale.
Action
The Retail associate performs these steps to process the order in their U.S. locale, but selects France from the Locale list so the shipping address format is appropriate for the French locale.
  1. Log into Retail Center using the user profile, which is localized to English.
  2. Click Find Orders.
  3. Search and locate the order.
  4. On the order details page, edit the shipping address in the Items Shipping section.
  5. Select France from the Country list, which then changes the address fields into the French address format.
  6. Add the French shipping address in the appropriate address fields for France.
Note: The Billing address remains in the U.S. address format because the order was processed by a U.S. customer in English.

Scenario 2: Localized Address in the Address Book

Scenario: Customer Service Center
An existing U.S. customer calls Customer Service Center and speaks with an English-speaking CSR in France. The customer wants to add their daughter's address in Germany as an additional shipping address. The CSR must add the daughter's address using an address format for Germany.
Action
The CSR in France performs these steps to add an additional shipping address in Germany to the Address book in the customer's record:
  1. Log into Customer Service Center using the user profile, which is localized in French.
  2. Search and locate the customer record.
  3. Click Add in the Address Book section of the Customer Information page.
  4. Select Germany from the Country list, which is in the appropriate address format for Germany.
  5. Add the German address to the customer record.
Note: The Billing address remains in the U.S. address format because the order was processed by a U.S. customer in English.
