Configuring Templates

Order Management shows customer-facing documents in the locale of the customer order. You can configure custom templates to localize customer-facing documents.

Templates are localized from the following menus in the Administration module:

Before localizing custom templates, you must:

  1. In Order Management Administration: click Settings > Templates.

Order Management is installed with system templates only. When you create a custom template, you must associate it with an object, for example, an item, order, invoice, or payment.

When creating and viewing orders in the Administration module or Customer Service Center, you can click the Template button to show a list of the custom templates.

The Template Manager opens with the system and custom templates listed in the left panel.
  2. Create a new template. There are two formats: Plain Text and HTML.
  3. At the bottom of the page in the left panel, select Email from the Type list to create a new custom email template.
  4. Enter a name for the new template in the Name field, for example, Order Message Localized.
  5. Click Add.
The new template appears in the Custom group in the left panel.
  6. Click the new custom template. Click ??? or Edit in the Template section.
You can copy and paste text fields and variables from an existing system template in plain text and HTML formats. Remember that the system automatically removes any special characters (ASCII range 0000 - 007F).
  7. Add the following as the first line in the content: $!Res.GetValue("XXXXX").
XXXXX represents the resource name that you previously specified. This resource is what directs Order Management to select the correct localized contents. See Configuring Resources.
  8. Repeat steps if you also want to copy and paste the HTML.
  9. Click Update to update the template., or click Cancel to exit without making changes.
  10. Select the object, such as Order, in the Attach To Object section.
If you created a new template, you must attach the attribute to an object, such as order, order item, or item.
  11. To validate that the localization column was added:
    1. In Order Management Administration: click Settings > Templates.
The Template Manager opens with the system and custom templates listed in the left panel.
    2. On the Template Manager, click the template link and click ???or Edit in the Template section.
The text for the template appears in plain text and HTML formats.
    3. Click Preview to preview the email text.
    4. On the Preview template: Custom Email page, select an object from the Object Type list.
    5. Enter an order number in the Identifier field (second field). For example, enter Order from the list, and then enter the Order # in the second field.
    6. Select Text or HTML as the format you want shown.
    7. Check the Show Possible Fields, if appropriate.
    8. Click Refresh.
The content appears with the localized attribute text.
