Managing Data in Order Management: Objects

Order Management stores and manages order data in the form of Objects. Types of Objects include:

In addition to the set of default data fields assigned to each Object type, you can define custom Attribute and Tag fields, which can be used as filters and search criteria. Attributes represent variables, while Tags represent constants. Each Attribute or Tag is associated with one or more particular Object types. You can design custom Attributes and Tags as appropriate for your business needs.

Attributes

An Attribute is a field that represents some variable property of an Object. Each Attribute has a data type (such as string, file attachment, list of values), a display type (such as text, HTML, drop-down list), and defined behaviors (such as value domain, multi-selection, visibility). For example, a “Color” Attribute could be defined for an Item Object to identify the particular color of an instance of that Item.

The following flags can also be set for each Attribute that is associated with Item Objects:

You can create Attribute Groups in which to organize your Attributes. Attribute Groups are simply a convenience and have no other function in the system.

Tags

A Tag is a custom constant value that acts as an identifier for Objects. An example of a Tag might be Domestic Sale Only, which could be assigned to Item Objects that can't be shipped outside the country.

Configuration

When viewing Object types in the Order Center Administration module, you see a Configuration section. This contains links to any Providers that might be defined for that Object type.

Object History

Order Management logs a history of all system activity related to an Object in the Object record, and makes it available when viewing the Object in the Order Management interface. For example, a Sales Order record might list the datetimes of its creation, approval, payment, and closing. The History also includes an email tool that you can use to send an email related to that Object. Any emails sent via this tool are recorded in the History.
